Annette Wynne - June's Picture
The whole poem -
June's Picture - Let me paint June's picture—first I take some gold, Fill the picture full of sun, all that it can hold; Save some for the butterflies, darting all around, And some more for buttercups here upon the ground; Take a lot of baby-blue—this—to make the sky, With a lot of downy white—soft clouds floating by; Cover all the ground with green, hang it from the trees, Sprinkle it with shiny white, neatly as you please; So—a million daisies spring up everywhere, Surely you can see now what is in the air! Here's a thread of silver—that's a little brook To hide in dainty places where only children look. - Annette Wynne
There's not much information about Annette Wynne. She wrote some very popular children's poetry in the early 20th century. Then, seemingly, disappeared. I found a post on “The Straight Dope Message Board” with some more information about her written by a fellow named Earl “Snake Hips” Tucker

Earl informs us “She was born in Brooklyn and after graduating college got a job as a teacher/nurse/governess in Alaska” later turns up as a newspaper editor in Oregon. Our plucky heroine returned to Brooklyn and married a fellow teacher, then wrote a the best selling book of poetry. There's no record of her in the 30s and 40s. From there, the story goes all Stephen King when, in the 50’s, she turns up as a resident of an insane asylum.
I like her poetry! I bet she would have written a fine poem about Amos!
The tips of the ears peaking out over the fencerail make me smile.
